Legal, Technical and Financial Pathways for Superhot, EGS & AGS
This session addresses the critical gap between technological progress and commercial deployment of next-generation geothermal technologies — Superhot geothermal, Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), and Advanced/Closed-loop Geothermal Systems (AGS). While recent breakthroughs have demonstrated technical viability, large-scale deployment remains constrained by a set of interconnected regulatory, legal, contractual, and financial challenges that must be resolved in parallel.
The session brings together developers, policymakers, engineers, legal experts, and investors to move from innovation to execution — from rock to revenue.

Turning Geothermal Heat into Energy Security and Opportunity
Heating and cooling remain one of the world’s largest and most overlooked energy challenges, yet also one of the greatest untapped opportunities. Direct use of geothermal energy can deliver reliable, affordable and low-carbon heat for homes, cities, industry and agriculture, while strengthening energy security, competitiveness and long-term resilience. This session brings together Icelandic expertise and international partners to explore how geothermal heat can be deployed at scale. Combining leadership perspectives, real-world engineering case stories and international dialogue, the session will demonstrate how proven solutions from Iceland can be adapted and implemented in Canada, North America and beyond.
June 10th
Geothermal energy is increasingly recognised as a strategic solution for energy security, grid resilience, and long-term economic development. This roundtable brings together governments, utilities, developers, financiers, and international partners to explore practical pathways for accelerating geothermal project preparation, de-risking, and bankable execution.
Hosts: GGA, World Bank, IRENA, ESMAP and Green by Iceland
